Sound therapy in Paris 16

The method behind our sessions: sound, vibration and silence, helping the nervous system slow down. You listen, the body follows.

Sound therapy in brief

Sound therapy is a wellbeing practice that uses sound and vibration (gong, Tibetan bowls, chimes) to help the nervous system slow down. You stay lying down, still, covered; there's nothing to do and nothing to get right. It's the method behind all our formats, from the group gong bath in Paris to the one-to-one sound massage. At Résonance a session lasts around an hour, in a group (seven people at most, from €39) or one to one (from €95), at 26 rue de Bassano, a short walk from Trocadéro.

The method

How does sound act on the nervous system?

The principle is simple, almost mechanical. When you're lying down and the waves of the gong fill the room, attention has something to hold onto. The mind stops circling. And as soon as the brain registers that there's no danger (no movement, no decision to make), it gives the body permission to let go. The breath lengthens. The heart rate drops. This is the shift from “alert” to “rest”, the state in which recovery becomes possible.

Nothing magical about it. We don't promise a guaranteed result: we set up the right conditions, and the nervous system takes it from there. You can do this in company at a group session, or face to face in a private session when you'd like a more personal setting.

  • Breathing. The breath lengthens as attention settles on the sound.
  • Heart rate. The heart slows once the brain registers that there's no danger.
  • The switch. Moving from “alert” to “rest”, the state in which recovery becomes possible.

How do you feel afterwards?

It varies from person to person. Some leave light, almost floating; others mostly notice an unfamiliar calm, the way you feel after a long walk. It's not unusual to sleep better the following night, or to find your shoulders have dropped a notch without your deciding it. Some people also find emotions surfacing during the immersion: that's normal, and the setting is built to hold them.

Now the part most places skip. Sound therapy doesn't cure anxiety, it doesn't treat depression, and it is not a replacement for therapy. What it does offer is sensory rest and some help regulating stress. For the circumstances in which the practice isn't advised, read the safety & care page carefully before booking.

Group, one to one or sound massage: which session?

Sound therapy comes in several formats. All rest on the same principle. None of them feels quite like the others.

The neighbourhood

Sound therapy between Étoile and Trocadéro

The studio is at 26 rue de Bassano, on the border of the 16th and the 8th, between the Champs-Élysées and place Victor Hugo. It's a neighbourhood of tight calendars: head offices, fashion houses, private practices. Setting an hour of silence down in the middle of that density changes the texture of the day.

People walk over from Trocadéro and Passy, come by metro to George V (line 1), Iéna or Alma-Marceau (line 9), or on the RER A to Charles-de-Gaulle–Étoile. Many book an end-of-day session, then walk home along the avenues without hurrying. Opening hours and access are on the studio page; for anything else, the contact page is the simplest route.

Frequently asked questions about sound therapy

How does a sound therapy session run?
A session lasts around an hour. It begins with a calm welcome and a few words about what's coming, then you lie down, covered and settled. Next comes the sound immersion itself: the gong, the Tibetan bowls and the chimes follow one another, with no imposed rhythm, for 40 to 45 minutes. The session closes with a gradual return and a short time to integrate. In a group you share the room with 7 people at most; one to one, the session adapts to you. The experience is described in detail on the gong bath in Paris page.
What are the effects of sound therapy?
Most people leave calmer, breathing more slowly and thinking more clearly. By staying still and listening, the nervous system steps out of “alert” and shifts towards rest: breathing slows, shoulders drop, mental churn subsides. Many participants mention falling asleep more easily the following night. Sound therapy supports decompression and body awareness; it doesn't treat a condition and doesn't replace medical or psychological care. To understand the mechanism, read sound baths and the nervous system.
What are the contraindications for sound therapy?
Sound therapy with the gong is not advised if you have epilepsy, a pacemaker, severe hearing conditions or hearing implants, psychosis that isn't currently stable, and during the first trimester of pregnancy or from the eighth month. If you're unsure, check with your doctor before you book. The detail is on the safety & care page.
What's the difference between sound therapy and a gong bath?
Sound therapy is the method; the gong bath is one form of it. Put another way, the group gong bath is a sound therapy session done in a group, lying down, with nothing to do. Sound therapy also covers the one-to-one formats such as the sound massage with Tibetan bowls and the private session, where the work is more targeted.
How much does a sound therapy session in Paris cost?
At Résonance the group format starts at €39 per person, and the one-to-one format at €95. The duo session is €135 and private hire starts at €350. Passes of 3, 5 or 12 sessions bring the price down over time. It's all on the pricing page.
Is sound therapy a medical treatment?
No. It's a wellbeing practice centred on sensory rest and stress regulation. It can support poor sleep or a rough patch, but it makes no diagnosis, cures no illness and is no substitute for treatment. If you're under medical care, mention it to your practitioner.
Do I need any experience to start?
None. Most people who come through the door at 26 rue de Bassano had never tried it. There's no posture to hold and no breathing to get right: you lie down and you listen. That's what makes it work from the very first session.

People will tell you a great deal about the power of sound. Ours fits in a sentence: the body doesn't need convincing, only putting in the right conditions. Come once, lie down, and see what's left of it the next morning.
