New to sound baths

What is a sound bath (or gong bath)?
It's a session in which you stay lying down, still and covered, immersed in the sounds and vibrations of the gong, Tibetan bowls and chimes. There's no posture to hold and no breathing to master: you listen, and the nervous system slides towards rest. It's the most accessible form of sound therapy. It's all set out on the gong bath in Paris page.
What's the difference between a sound bath and a gong bath?
Both describe the same experience: a sound immersion, lying down. “Sound bath” is the generic term; “gong bath” puts the emphasis on the gong as the central instrument. At Résonance the gong is at the heart of the session, joined by bowls and chimes. You can book either from the booking page.
What is the sound massage?
It's a one-to-one session of around 60 minutes in which Tibetan bowls are placed on your body and around you, clothed and lying down. You feel the vibrations directly, more locally than in a group session. It's €95. All the detail is on the sound massage page, and if you'd prefer the group format, see the group sound bath.

Practical

Are sessions run in English?
Yes, properly so. Zahra is bilingual and leads the whole session in English, and booking, confirmations and anything you ask beforehand are handled in English too. You don't need to flag it in advance. Worth knowing as well: there's very little language involved either way. A few minutes of conversation as you arrive, and after that it's gong and bowls. Nothing to follow, nothing to translate, nothing to mishear.
Do I need to be initiated? Is a gong bath suitable for beginners?
No initiation required. Most people who turn up have never tried it before, and that's rather the point. You lie down, you listen, you let yourself be carried, nothing to get right. Our Google reviews are full of first times. If you're coming as a pair, the duo session does exactly this.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable, warm clothing: body temperature drops when you lie still. Everything else is provided: mats, blankets, cushions and eye masks. There's nothing else to organise but yourself. A few extra pointers (before, during, after) are on the contact page.
How long does a session last?
Around an hour in total: a calm welcome, a short introduction, close to 45 minutes of sound immersion, then a gradual return and time to integrate. Plan to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early so you can settle in without rushing. The full sequence is described on the sound bath & gong bath page.
Are there any contraindications?
A gong bath is not advised if you have epilepsy, a pacemaker, severe hearing conditions or hearing implants, psychosis that isn't currently stable, and during the first trimester of pregnancy or from the eighth month. If you're unsure, check with your doctor. The detail is on the safety & care page.
Is a sound bath suitable during pregnancy?
We advise against it in the first trimester and from the eighth month. In between, many expectant mothers find it works very well, but do ask your midwife or doctor, and tell us when you arrive so we can adapt how you're settled. More on the safety & care page.

Pricing & booking

How much does a session cost?
The group session starts at €39 per person. The one-to-one sound massage is €95, the private session from €95, and the duo session €135. Every format, card and corporate offer is gathered on the pricing page.
Do you offer cards or a membership?
Yes. Passes of 3, 5 or 12 sessions bring the price down to as little as €30 a session, and the unlimited annual membership (€1,190/year or €109/month) suits a weekly practice. The detail of the passes and pricing is on its own page.
How do I book or cancel a session?
Booking is done online from the booking page, where you choose your format and your slot. To cancel or move a session, let us know as early as you can by email or phone. Something specific (a group, a particular time)? Go through the contact form.
Can I give a session as a gift?
Yes, the gift card can be for an amount or a chosen experience, it's valid for 6 months and is sent by email. It's a simple way to give someone an hour of genuine rest. See the gift card page to order one.
Do you offer private, duo or corporate sessions?
Yes. The private session is tailored one-to-one support; the duo session is for two in a private space; private hire takes up to 8 people. For teams, see the wellbeing and team building formats on the corporate page.

Still have a question?

Write to us. We answer the way we talk, without jargon. And if you're ready, your place is waiting on rue de Bassano.

A good FAQ should answer everything, but it will never replace the experience. The day you lie down, none of these questions will come up. That's rather the point.
